We need not walk alone
The Mission of The Compassionate Friends of Portland, Maine:
When a child dies, at any age, the family suffers intense pain and may feel hopeless and isolated. We provide highly personal comfort, hope, and support to every family experiencing the death of a son or a daughter, a brother or a sister, or a grandchild, and help others better assist the grieving family.
Our monthly support group meetings are the heart of our local Chapter and are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month. These gatherings provide a caring environment in which bereaved parents, adult siblings, and grandparents can talk freely about the emotions and experiences they are going through and receive the understanding support of others who have “been there.” Often, members say that the hope provided through these sharing sessions has been more helpful than other types of support in resolving grief within their family following the death of a child.

What We Do
Friendship, Understanding, and Hope
Support Meetings
These meetings are the heart of TCF, where bereaved parents, siblings, and grandparents can share their grief and experiences with others who truly understand. These meetings provide a safe space for expressing emotions and sharing memories of their loved ones.
Resources and Literature
TCF chapters often have libraries of grief-related literature, including books, pamphlets, and newsletters, both in print and online. These resources cover a wide range of topics relevant to grieving families.
Online and Social Media Support
In addition to in-person meetings, we offer online support through websites, forums, social media groups, and virtual meetings. This can be particularly helpful for those who are unable to attend in person due to distance, health, or other reasons.
